2018 Fall FEAST Schedule

The Garrison Mill Educational Foundation is pleased to announce the Foundation Enrichment After-School Time (FEAST) offerings for Fall 2018!  Classes will begin the week of August 21st and end the week of December 3rd.  *Please note there will no classes on Monday, September 3rd (Labor Day), Tuesday November 2nd (Election Day) or the weeks of Fall Break, Conference Week and Thanksgiving Break.  We will not have FEAST clubs on the Early Release days of 8/29 and 10/11. Monday and Tuesday clubs extend one additional week due to Labor Day and Election Day.

 

FEAST clubs and activities are provided by both Garrison Mill staff and outside vendors.  Clubs meet weekly immediately after school. ALL Garrison Mill students are eligible to participate regardless of whether or not they are participating in the GM After School Childcare Program (ASP).  Program fees are set by the vendor. Please remember that these programs donate 15% of the tuition cost to the Garrison Mill Educational Foundation, which is responsible for funding our amazing Science Lab and instructors, and teacher grants.  This is a great way to support GMEF!  Please visit our website to register.

Action for Happiness Club

What can you do to help yourself (and others) feel happier?  This club is packed with fun activities and ideas to build your happiness skills.  You will learn that based on the latest research, experts have worked out 10 Keys to Happier Living.  Each week we will be focusing on a ‘key’ and pick an activity, challenge, strategy or game, try it out to see what we discover, what we feel and what we notice. All children will be encouraged to practice some of the strategies they have explored and share these with you at home.  This club will be taught by one of our GM parents, Monica Kerik – lifefullofgoodness.com.

 

Whiz Kids Science Club

Grab your goggles and lab coat; we are on a scientific discovery mission! Explore the world of science through everyday objects such as food and nature. Learn the science behind the things we use in our daily lives. There will be some explosions, a few creations and a whole lot of discoveries. Don’t miss out on this mission!  This course is brought to you by Little Scholars.

 

Karate

At Marietta Martial Arts, we believe that martial arts training encompass all aspects of a students’ life, not just the physical. As students participate in our classes, parents quickly see that we place a high value on their individual development and achievement through emphasizing “Future Black Belt Behavior.” What is “Future Black Belt Behavior”? Challenge Island – need to add new description

Inspired by the bestselling I Survived Book Series, I Survived Island will take your tribe on a thrilling adventure through some of the most famous disasters in history!  From the eruption of Mt Vesuvius to the sinking of the Titanic to the Great San Francisco Earthquake, you and your tribemates will work together to overcome epic challenges using only the materials in your treasure chest and the power of your imagination.  Join us for this not to be missed Challenge Island Adventure!

 

Greyhound Music Club

Let’s make music! The Greyhound Music Club will extend skills learned during Music class through playing instruments, moving and singing.  Students will explore the joy of making music together, with a special focus on Orff Schulwerk, which focuses on xylophones, metallophones and glockenspiels.  Music Club is a fun way to make new friends while improving our musicianship! Taught by our own Mrs. Crotty!

Jr. Programming

Introduce your child to technology and simple programming with this exciting tablet-based course. Students will create interactive images, computer games, and story animations.  While they are busy creating and having fun, students will be learning basic programming skills and will take away critical thinking and problem-solving skills that will benefit them long after the course is over.

 

Chilling Out

Students will learn fun relaxation techniques to increase focus, manage stress and anxiety through stretching, imagination, & creativity!  This course is taught by our own, Mrs. Ofiara.

 

KidzKeys – Piano

Soar into KidzKeys this semester and learn skills that will last a lifetime! KidzKeys provides students with an environment to explore and express their own creativity - all while having fun learning with friends! Our experienced teachers work with students to develop their own musical abilities, promote self-confidence, and encourage teamwork.  See you in class!

 

Art with Mrs. Lopez and Mrs. McReynolds:

Experience the fundamentals of art in a fun learning environment. This class will focus on line, shape and color as children explore a variety of art materials and techniques such as drawing, painting, paper mache, clay and more in a fun environment. Instruction in this class will enhance a child’s imagination and set the basics for future artwork. The goal is to focus on the art process. Curriculum for each class is unique. We will get messy and have lots of fun! We will create many projects and all artwork will go home with student!

 

Mini Muscle Bootcamp

Learn the fundamentals of proper form and safety for a lifetime of fitness focusing on:  Strength, Training, Agility/Speed, Sports Conditioning, Endurance, Increasing Focus, Building Confidence and Self-Esteem.  Vincent Casey is AAAI/ISMA certified personal trainer and sports nutrition consultant.

 

Drama Club – Page One Studios

Welcome to the Hundred Acre Wood, where Winnie the Pooh is once again in search of honey.  Along the way, he meets his pals, Tigger, Piglet, Rabbit and Owl, but soon discovers that Christopher Robin has been captured by the mysterious Backson!  As they prepare for a rescue operation, the animals learn about teamwork, friendship and of course… sharing snacks.

 

Chess

Chess makes you smart, we make it fun!  Chess develops critical thinking, confidence and competition skills.  Two sessions available.

 

Drone Programming – need description

Why just play with drones when you can program them?!  In the air or on the ground, you program and maneuver these drones through weekly challenges.  

 

Guitar Club

Turn up the volume and rock out with Guitar Club this semester! Guitar Club provides students the opportunity to grab a guitar and have fun playing music with friends. Our encouraging and experienced teachers are ready to help your child develop their own musical abilities as they prepare for an exciting final performance!

 

Kidz Tennis

ALL Equipment is provided for Use in our Mobile Tennis Program.  We Utilize: 1) Portable junior nets (provided), 2) 19" - 25" junior tennis racquets (provided), 3) Foam & Low Compression Tennis Balls (provided), 4) Small Group Format for Maximum Benefit.  Kidz Tennis Benefits: 1) Provides safe, fun, and challenging physical activity for your child. 2) Promotes good sportsmanship and healthy development. 3) It improves balance & coordination.

 

Skills & Frills

Club Skills & Frills tackles fun, crafty projects aimed at teaching kids lots of handy skills, like how to operate a drill, use a sewing machine or follow a recipe. Each semester, we take on several cool projects and make lots of unique items. From making cool signs or decorating cupcakes to creating personalized t-shirts or building PVC pipe projects, Club Skills & Frills is a great program for boys and girls who love hands-on craft projects.  Projects are tailored to each child’s age, comfort level and personal taste.
